Water protection
When handling substances hazardous to water (gases, liquids and solids), special protective measures must be taken to protect water.
Do you operate a facility in which substances hazardous to water are handled? Then you are obliged to comply with the water protection requirements. Substances hazardous to water are substances that are either considered to be generally hazardous to water or can be assigned to a water hazard class (WGK).
Requirements for systems in which substances hazardous to water are handled are regulated in the AwSV (Ordinance on the Handling of Substances Hazardous to Water).
Do you need an expert opinion, an inspection by an AwSV expert or general advice on the subject of plant-related water protection (AwSV)?

Approval procedure
Expert opinions for immission control approval procedures
As part of approval procedures, an expert opinion is regularly required to check compliance with the requirements of plant-related water protection. The requirements arising from the AwSV and the Technical Rules for Substances Hazardous to Water (TRwS) are examined here.
Notification
according to § 40 AwSV
The competent authority must be notified in writing at least six weeks in advance of the construction or significant modification of an AwSV facility subject to inspection and of any modification that leads to a change in the hazard level.
We will be happy to assist you in preparing a notification in accordance with § 40 AwSV for submission to the competent authority.
Suitability assessment
Expert opinion in accordance with Section 41 AwSV
According to § 63 WHG, the suitability of facilities for storage, filling and handling (LAU facilities) must be determined before construction and operation as well as after significant changes.
We will be happy to provide you with the relevant reports for submission to the competent authority.
Suitability assessment
Expert opinion in accordance with Section 42 AwSV
As part of the suitability assessment in accordance with Section 63 WHG, authorities may require the submission of an additional water protection expert opinion from an AwSV expert.
We will be happy to support you in communicating with the authorities to clarify the scope of the expert opinion and prepare the required expert opinion for submission to the authority responsible for you.
Plant documentation
according to § 43 AwSV
According to § 43 AwSV, as the operator of an AwSV plant you are obliged to keep plant documentation.
We will be happy to support you in preparing your documentation by providing sample templates, checking for completeness or preparing a complete register.
Inspections
according to § 47 AwSV
Systems that fall within the scope of the AwSV must be inspected by an expert within the meaning of the AwSV in accordance with Section 47 AwSV.
We are happy to offer to carry out the necessary inspections for your AwSV systems.
Classification of substances and mixtures
according to Annex 1 AwSV
As the operator of a plant, you are obliged to classify the substances handled in your plant as “not hazardous to water” or in a water hazard class. Such a classification already exists for many substances and you can fall back on this. For company-specific mixtures, such information is usually not available and you must carry out a classification yourself in accordance with the requirements of Annex 1 of the AwSV.
We will be happy to carry out this classification for you and prepare the necessary documentation for submission to the competent authority (Federal Environment Agency) or for internal use.
