Explosion protection

In the area of wastewater treatment, anaerobic processes lead to the formation of methane. This can also lead to the formation of a hazardous explosive atmosphere. In addition, the (unintentional) discharge of fuels (especially petrol) up to the grit chamber or, as a rule, up to the first aeration of the discharged wastewater can lead to the formation of a hazardous explosive atmosphere. Explosion protection document

according to § 6 (9) GefStoffV

According to § 6 (9) GefStoffV, you as the operator are obliged to consider explosion hazards separately in a risk assessment. If these cannot be excluded in principle, e.g. because flammable substances are handled, you are obliged to prepare an explosion protection document.

We offer you the preparation of explosion protection documents in accordance with § 6 (9) GefStoffV, taking into account the current legal situation and the state of the art.

Creation
As part of a site inspection, we assess the local conditions and determine the potentially explosive areas. Based on this, we develop the explosion protection concept which, as the core of the explosion protection document, contains the operating concept, the primary, secondary and tertiary protective measures, the zone classification and a final assessment of explosion safety, taking into account TRGS 725. In addition, the necessary organizational measures and inspection intervals in accordance with BetrSichV are determined and recorded in the explosion protection document. If required, we can carry out an assessment of ventilation measures in accordance with DIN EN 60079-10-1.

equipment in accordance with Directive 2014/34/EU (ATEX) and creating a zone plan.
Necessity
The explosion protection document must be created before commissioning, as it forms the basis for the pre-commissioning inspection in accordance with Section 15 BetrSichV and the instruction of your employees.

Inspections

in accordance with Annex 2 Section 3 BetrSichV

According to § 15 BetrSichV, systems with explosion hazards must be inspected prior to commissioning and also periodically according to § 16 BetrSichV. The inspections must be carried out by persons authorized to carry out inspections in accordance with BetrSichV.

The required inspections and the persons authorized to carry out inspections are described in more detail in Annex 2 Section 3 of the BetrSichV.

We are happy to carry out the following tests for you.

Inspection before commissioning - Annex 2 Section 3 No. 4.1
The test must be carried out once before commissioning or before recommissioning after modifications requiring testing. In particular, the explosion protection document including zone classification, necessary further tests of the devices, protective systems, safety, control and regulating devices within the meaning of Directive 2014/34/EU with their connecting devices as well as the ventilation systems, gas warning devices and inertization devices must be checked by a person qualified to carry out the test in accordance with Annex 2 Section 3 No. 3.3.
Periodic inspection - Annex 2 Section 3 No. 5.1
The inspection is required every 6 years. In particular, the explosion protection document including zone classification and the tests carried out in accordance with No. 5.2 and No. 5.3 must be checked by a person qualified to carry out the test in accordance with Annex 2 Section 3 No. 3.3.

Training courses

within the meaning of § 12 BetrSichV

As an operator of systems requiring monitoring in accordance with Annex 2 Section 3 BetrSichV - systems with explosion risks - you are obliged to instruct your employees on the activity-related explosion hazards at least once a year in accordance with Section 12 BetrSichV.

We offer training for your employees that is tailored to your plant. In our training courses, your employees will not only learn the basic principles of explosion protection, they will also be trained on the specific hazards in your plant based on your explosion protection document.

The main contents of the training are Awareness of explosion protection, chemical-physical principles of explosions, regulations, operating concept, primary, secondary and tertiary protective measures, risk assessment, explosion protection document and zoning, equipment according to ATEX Directive, tests according to BetrSichV, organizational measures
Active participation
Content can be better internalized through active participation. In our training courses, what you learn is applied directly to your company. For example, the training can be combined with a joint site inspection.
Final examination
We can conduct a final examination on request. Independently of this, a certificate of attendance is issued for each participant, which you can use to prove that you have attended the training course.

Inspections

according to § 47 AwSV

Systems that fall within the scope of the AwSV must be inspected by an expert within the meaning of the AwSV in accordance with Section 47 AwSV.

We are happy to offer to carry out the necessary inspections for your AwSV systems.

Obligation to inspect according to location
Annex 5 of the AwSV specifies the inspection dates for systems outside protected areas or provisionally secured flood areas. Annex 6 lists the inspection dates for installations within the aforementioned areas.
